This isn't my father's world anymore.
No longer do I have to bundle countless daily newspapers. No more must I spend hundreds of hours searching the library archives and microfiche to find that specific article I need to finish my homework.
I have the Internet. And the Internet has me.
Over the last year, I have questioned my decision to major in journalism. I don't want to write for a newspaper; I don't even read newspapers unless I'm board or want to play sudoku or a crossword puzzle.
But I want to make a diffference in the world. This, coupled with the fact that I can write well, made me choose journalism. I figured if I could create the discussion that changes the world, I would have succeeded.
Contemporary reporting is changing the world. Internet blogs are pervading American households. My children provide a great example; they are more comfortable with a laptop than a newspaper. Ask them to find an article about Ancient Egypt and the effects its culture has on modern society and they'll head directly to the computer. So do I.
I'm not saying newspapers are dead; my parents and grandparents still read them. But there is a revolution afoot: give it 10 years and internet reporting will overtake all other forms of journalism.
This is just my opinion. Here's some examples.
